DARWIn UPDATE
Exciting things are happening in Darwin as Street Peace continues to build relationships, grow its team and create opportunities for young people to encounter hope, connection and Jesus.
We’re consistently seeing 30–35 young people at the Nest, with conversations deepening and trust continuing to grow. These relationships are opening doors to share about Jesus, and it’s encouraging to see young people bringing their friends along, too!
Our volunteer team is also growing, with three new female volunteers joining the team. As we continue to build a strong foundation, we’re intentional about creating a culture where every young person feels valued, safe and welcomed. We’ve been introducing the Nest’s Values and Standards, making space for short messages and reflections during family prayer time, and exploring more organised games and activities to strengthen connection and belonging.
Taking hope beyond the Nest is another important part of what we do. Each week, a small team of two to four Street Peace volunteers visits Yirra House, a youth bail accommodation service. Through sport, games, personal testimonies, Bible stories and prayer, we’re creating opportunities for young people to experience genuine care and hear a message of hope in the middle of challenging circumstances.
We’ve also had some great opportunities to connect with the wider Darwin community. Anna and Gina from our Frankston Hib in Victoria recently visited, bringing a huge boost of encouragement and morale to the team. During their time in Darwin, they joined outreach, helped run the Nest, connected with the core team, facilitated a session at Yirra House and helped lead a worship night for Street Peace volunteers, where we spent time praying for the young people we serve.
They also shared about the work of Street Peace through local church connections, with Gina speaking briefly at church and Anna and Gina joining an interview on Darwin’s 97.7 Christian Radio, which is also helping spread the word about Street Peace through radio advertisements.
There’s even more ahead! We’re looking forward to connecting with a local missions conference, welcoming a YWAM team, and partnering with volunteers from C3 Church for a special food truck event featuring a meal and a free op-shop clothing giveaway.
We’re grateful for every volunteer, church and community partner who is helping make this work possible. As relationships deepen, the team grows and new doors open, we’re excited to see what God will continue to do through Street Peace in Darwin.
One relationship at a time, we’re bringing hope to the streets of Darwin.
